I had my meeting in the Senate House Library with my fabulous new mentor. He is a really nice man and the meeting was really helpful. Also the Senate House Library is amazing! I wish I had gotten some pictures of it.

Here some things I took away from my meeting:

1) I'm in a really good position to be getting my certification at the moment. I have a lot of support at work to keep learning and growing professionally which not everyone gets.

2) Certification takes a year at least and things can get in the way. So I won't give up even if I have to take a break.

3) I need to learn more about different parts of the industry. I already have some background in school libraries which is helpful. I also have a connection to a public library near by so perhaps it's time for a formal visit.

4) I need to think about my personal growth when I do reflection, not just how my knowledge benefits the team or the readers. This won't be easy, given that I'm pretty humble for the most part.

All in all, it was a great meeting and I can see why mentors are so important to the certification process. Everyone should have one. Seriously.
